The Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has directed the officials concerned on Wednesday to complete the ongoing underground electricity projects first before starting new works in Dehradun.
In the meeting district level project coordination committee, 13 proposals of Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (PTCUL) and Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) related to underground power lines were reviewed. The DM said that the pending works should be completed quickly with proper standards. He asked departments to use more workers, machines and double shifts so that work can finish on time.
He clearly said that new projects will get approval only after the old works are completed. He also directed that roads damaged during digging should be repaired immediately. After work is completed, roads must be checked through inspection and then blacktopped without delay.
The DM Bansal warned officials not to ignore public safety during construction work. He said barricading and signboards are compulsory at all digging sites. If any agency leaves roads dug up, cuts more roads than permitted, or ignores safety rules, strict legal action will be taken.
He also said that the pits dug at night must be filled by the next morning to avoid accidents and traffic problems. Proper supervision at work sites is also necessary.
The officials informed the DM that several underground cable projects are already going on in different parts of the city, including Raipur Road, Canal Road, Saharanpur Road and Kanwali Road. Some new proposals were also discussed in the meeting.
