Stating that stagnant water in and around the government buildings can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has directed Jal Sansthan and Jal Nigam to take necessary action in the matter considering the dengue outbreak in the district. She directed the executive engineers of both departments to take an interest in preventing dengue at a personal level by regularly cleaning stagnant water in and around government buildings and water tanks across the district. The water leakage through taps and pipes often leads to an accumulation of water that can worsen the situation in present times and officials concerned must repair them immediately as well. She said that these steps are necessary as the district is witnessing an increasing number of dengue patients every day. She has directed them to commence the work from Friday and asked them to submit photos and videos along with locations as proof of the ongoing work to the chief health officer’s office by 6 PM every day. The DM also directed the additional labour commissioner to inspect the construction sites in the city and direct the concerned contractors and firms to take effective action at their level to destroy dengue larvae in the nearby areas and the places where labourers reside. She also directed the in-charges of all blood banks to ensure that boards displaying information about the availability of blood, especially platelets, are placed in their respective centres and update it regularly on the e-Rakta Kosh portal as well. Meanwhile, the administration received 70 calls in the dengue control room on Thursday till 7 PM most of which were about platelets-related issues and irregular fogging.
