DM orders MCD to increase response teams to tackle waterlogging

In view of the weather alert regarding the possibility of heavy rainfall from Tuesday onward, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika conducted a surprise visit to the disaster control room of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Monday evening. She took stock of arrangements of the control from the personnel deployed there. She also interacted with complainants over the phone to understand the status of their grievances. 

The DM also directed the municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar to assign an officer for monitoring the complaints received in the control room, ensuring they are promptly addressed. She also said that the complaints should be computerised for systematic compilation which will enable quick access to information regarding received and resolved complaints.  She also asked officials to increase the number of response teams and pumping equipment to expedite water drainage in heavily waterlogged areas. Meanwhile, the corporation on Monday received about 45 complaints regarding waterlogging in various parts of the city.

The quick response team of the corporation had resolved about 30 complaints till late evening. Besides this, the district disaster control room in Dehradun also received 15 complaints from across the district regarding severe waterlogging on Monday. The district disaster management officer Rishabh Kumar said that the administration has been working on resolving the issues as soon as possible by coordinating with the departments concerned.
