Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has directed the officials to ensure that the sales of plastic national flags and associated items remain prohibited ahead of Independence Day. Many prefer to sell and buy plastic flags as they are often cheap which is not just against rules but also compromises the dignity of the national flag. Considering this, the DM has directed the officials to inspect markets and ensure that no plastic national flags and associated items will be sold on the occasion of Independence Day. She stated this in a meeting held on Thursday regarding the preparations for the celebrations of the Independence Day.  She directed all officials concerned to complete their assigned duties on time regarding the August 15 celebrations. She directed them to ensure Independence Day programmes and morning processions in their respective areas are carried out peacefully. She also directed the Health officials to deploy ambulances during main processions for emergencies. Sonika directed them to distribute sweets at women’s shelters and jails and fruits in government hospitals. The Education department was also instructed to organise debates and essay competitions in schools. The municipal bodies and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) were also directed to ensure cleanliness and proper lighting at key intersections and government buildings on the occasion. The Excise department was also ordered to close liquor shops and canteens from the night of August 14 until the morning of August 16.
