DM urges girls to stand up to gender bias evils

In latest news from Uttarakhand, while addressing a commemorative programme to mark the International Day of Girl Child organised at the collectorate auditorium, the Uttarkashi district magistrate Abhishek Ruhela exhorted the girls to stand up to any form of gender inequality and empower themselves by fully availing all the welfare initiatives being dished out by the Centre and the State government. He stressed on the co-ordination among the government agencies, non-government organisations and all sections of the people to rid the society of the antediluvian gender bias and discrimination. He also assured that an inter-departmental meeting would be held involving health, education and child development departments to evolve a work plan to combat the health hygiene problems facing the girls. Further, the DM urged the girls to keep learning new things and go the whole hog to assimilate these in themselves. This would help the expansion of their personalities, he observed. He said that he was looking forward to receive suggestions from them on how make the administration more people-friendly and urged them to participate actively in the National Voters Day. All the girls who have attained the age to exercise franchise should make it a point to have their names included in the electoral rolls, the DM said
