With the initiative of district magistrate Savin Bansal, an exposure visit was arranged for the inmates of Nari Niketan and the girls at Balika Niketan in Dehradun. Bansal informed that this initiative, inspired by the chief minister and supported by the ongoing, compassionate efforts of the Dehradun District administration, aims to empower the inmates of the State Women Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre (Nari Niketan) and Balika Niketan.
Bansal emphasised that this initiative was not solely for sightseeing or entertainment, but rather to enhance their self-confidence, sense of belonging and positive outlook by connecting them with the social environment.
According to the DM, the women living at Nari Niketan were taken to Crossroads Mall, where they watched the highly regarded patriotic film “Border 2.” Afterward, they enjoyed lunch in a welcoming environment at a nearby restaurant, followed by an exploration of the mall’s various shops.
In addition, the girls from Balika Niketan went on an educational and historical outing to Silver City, Pacific Mall and Rashtrapati Niketan located on Rajpur Road. At Silver City Mall, they also viewed a patriotic film. Comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure their refreshments, safety and care throughout the tour. This exposure visit allowed the girls to have enjoyable experiences while gaining practical knowledge, DM said.
Bansal said that the goal of these programmes extends beyond mere entertainment; they aim to offer practical insights into social, educational and cultural issues for vulnerable women and orphaned girls residing in shelters. The intention is to help them integrate into society with dignity and to empower them to shape their futures.
He said that when these women and girls are provided with respect, care and a positive social setting, their rehabilitation can be more successful, enduring and significant. DM said that the district administration will persist in making such compassionate and encouraging efforts in the future with the same commitment.
