DM’s ‘salary on hold’ works: DPRO issues death certificates

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun
Following strict action taken by the district magistrate, Savin Bansal, the district Panchayat Raj officer (DPRO) cleared his pending works. Notably, Bansal had ordered withholding his salary for failing to issue death certificates to some applicants. He had further stated in the order that the salary would not be released until the certificates were issued.
The issue came to light during a multi-purpose public camp held on December 1, 2025, in Itharna village under Doiwala block. At the camp, two residents complained that the death certificates of their parents had not been issued.
Despite earlier instructions from the sub-divisional magistrate and other officials to complete the work within three days, no timely action had been taken at the Panchayati Raj level. Subsequently, the DM ordered the salary of the DPRO be stopped until the issue was resolved.
Once the certificates were issued, the file to release the officer’s salary was sent for approval. The district administration has once again made it clear that negligence in resolving public complaints will not be tolerated and all officials must work in a timely and transparent manner in the interests of common people.
