Doon administration gears up for Mussoorie tourist season

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

Expecting a high tourist flux in Mussoorie from next month, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal has ordered the completion of repair and construction work on the Mussoorie-Kimadi motor road by May 15 to ensure an alternative route is ready before the season begins. A sum of Rs 40 lakh has been sanctioned for the project and the work is already underway on a priority basis. Bansal informed that in preparation for increased tourist activity, the administration is also focused on streamlining local transport.

The DM has directed to make the shuttle service operational before the season begins, especially before the summer vacation of schools. He informed that shuttle parking areas will be set up at Library Chowk and Picture Palace and a helpdesk will be established for public assistance. The Mussoorie Municipal Council, police and Transport department will coordinate among them to identify official parking zones and expand vehicle parking capacity. The DM informed that the police have been asked to manage vehicle entry according to the parking availability in hotels. Marking of designated parking areas is being carried out at Hathipaon Bend.

Besides this, shuttle parking signage will be installed along the route from Mussoorie diversion to Kincraig parking in Dehradun. A token system will be implemented for shuttle passengers and a contract agreement will govern the operation of the authorised shuttle service. The administration will also plan timed entry for vehicles on Mall Road to reduce congestion. Bansal said that the administration is also preparing for the ensuing Char Dham Yatra. “The administration is working in coordination with all the departments concerned to manage the expected flow of pilgrims in Rishikesh from next month. We will ensure that they do not have to go through any inconvenience,” he added.
