Heat to severe heat wave conditions continued on the second day in various parts of the State on Thursday with temperatures reaching five to seven degrees above normal. The maximum temperature reached seven degrees above normal to 42.8 degrees Celsius in Dehradun, 6.9 degrees above normal to 30.5 degrees Celsius in Mussoorie with similar rise in the maximum temperatures being witnessed in other parts of the State. The conditions are expected to remain the same on Friday with some relief expected with rain and thunderstorm activity on June 1 and 2, the State meteorological centre director Bikram Singh said.
The meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat and Pithoragarh districts and at isolated places in Dehradun ,Tehri, Pauri, Nainital districts on Friday. The centre has issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Dehradun, Almora, Champawat, Pauri, Nainital, Tehri and Pithoragarh districts today. Heat to severe heat wave conditions are likely to occur at many places in the plain districts and at a few places in the mountainous districts of the State on Friday. Warm to severe warm night conditions are likely to occur at a few places in the plains of the State today.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. Thunder cloud development/light rain is likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 43 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Thursday were 42.8 degrees Celsius and 29.3 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 42.4 degrees Celsius and 29.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 29 degrees Celsius and 18.1 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 32 degrees Celsius and 19.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
