Doon bakes at 43.1 °C, severe heat wave condition warning issued for today

People in Dehradun suffered another day of soaring temperatures with the maximum temperature rising to 43.1 degrees Celsius even as heat wave conditions were experienced in other parts of the State too on Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures in most places were above normal. With the monsoon expected to arrive in the State on June 25, there is no respite in the sight for the next few days. The State meteorological centre has issued an orange warning regarding the possibility of heat wave to severe heat wave conditions likely to occur at a few places in Dehradun, Pauri, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts of the State on Tuesday. It also issued a yellow warning regarding the possibility of heat wave conditions likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning / gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State today. Apart from this, very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in the mountains of the State today. Dry weather is likely to prevail in the plains of the State. Further, surface wind is likely to be strong and gusty (30-40 kmph) in the plain areas of the State during the day time.
The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 42 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Monday were 43.1 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41.6 degrees Celsius and 26.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 32 degrees Celsius and 18.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 31.4 degrees Celsius and 22.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
