The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal on Friday directed the officials to act against the ongoing construction works that are preventing the flow of rainwater leading to waterlogging. The commissioner said that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has been receiving complaints of waterlogging from various locations in the Mohabbewala area of the city.
The quick response team of the corporation was sent to the waterlogged areas and water was removed with the help of a motor pump. The commissioner also inspected the area and observed that waterlogging occurred due to drains choked by local people. Ongoing construction works in several localities are also causing waterlogging in many areas of the city.
Considering this, the commissioner directed the municipal officials to coordinate with the officials of the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to check ongoing construction works which have obstructed the flow of rainwater to action against them as per the rules. He also instructed the sanitation inspectors of the corporation to get the drains of the roads adjacent to waterlogged colonies in the Mohabbewala area cleared without delay to prevent rainwater from entering the residential colonies. He also ordered the executive engineer of the corporation to create rechargeable pits to ensure no waterlogging occurs at these places in the future.
