The Dehradun police have arrested five men accused of committing a broad daylight robbery in a house in Nehru Colony on Tuesday. The owner of the house is Sandeep Aggarwal who runs a private school in the city and his wife, sister and mother were present in the house at the time of the robbery. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said that eight teams were formed under the supervision of the SP (crime) Sarvesh Panwar and SP (city) Sarita Dobhal. The team first analysed nearly 450 CCTV footage of the area which revealed that the robbers had arrived at the scene in a scooty and a bike. They parked their vehicles at some distance from the house and returned within 10 minutes with the loot and escaped on their two-wheelers. He said that they had covered the number plates of vehicles with a black tape which made it difficult for the police to trace them.
The police found activities of some persons suspicious in CCTV footage and activated the informers’ network in various cities including Bijnor, Haridwar, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Delhi. He said that the police got information about the involvement of some people of a village in Muzaffarnagar.
Acting on an informer’s tip, the police on Thursday arrested four accused identified as Vipin, Sachin, Vikas and Ankit from Muzaffarnagar and one accused Vikash Jaiswal from Rishikesh. Kunwar said that the accused Vipin revealed during the interrogation that his cousin Guddu works in the school which is run by Sandeep Aggarwal, the complainant. “Vipin gathered some information about the owner and considering new school admissions take place in April, they expected to find Rs 40 to 50 lakh cash in his house. He then later involved Sachin, Ankit and Vikas in his plan,” said the SSP. He informed that the accused had come to the Nehru Colony area 10 days ago and analysed the victim’s house and daily activities before robbing it. According to Vipin, they had planned to rob the house twice before too but did not get any chance, said Kunwar. He said that they had planned to rob the house on April 10 the second time but did not get the chance again so they went Rishikesh to stay with Vikas Jaiswal who belongs to his native village. Jaiswal also got into their plan after they revealed it to him. They reached the spot the next day on April 11 at noon to rob the house and fled the scene in 10 minutes in haste after a woman upstairs started screaming. “They said that they changed their clothes soon after leaving the place to not get caught easily on CCTV cameras. They fled to Rishikesh, dropped Jaiswal there and gave him a ring and then went back to Muzaffarnagar to sell the jewellery. Nobody was ready to buy the stolen items without proper bills so they were returning to their homes on Thursday when the police nabbed them,” said Kunwar. The police have recovered all looted jewellery from the accused, he added.
