Doon police arrest six men for betting on IPL match

Dehradun police arrested six men in Raipur area for online betting on the ongoing cricket matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said that the police got a tip-off on Sunday that some men are placing online bets on the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings in a house near Lakshmi Devi School in the Raipur area.
Acting on the information, the SSP said that the police reached the spot and arrested six men for illegal online betting. He said that out of the six accused, three were allegedly bookies who used to place bets for others. “These bookies revealed during the interrogation that they have accounts in an illegal app to place online bets on IPL matches. They got the link of the illegal app and the IDs to place online bets from a Bijnor resident Firoz Ahmad. They buy one lakh online points for Rs 22,000 from their respective bosses and sell them to small gamblers to place online bets,” said Kunwar.
He said that the police have also recovered nine mobile phones which were used to place bets and Rs 25,900 cash. The police have also frozen various bank accounts of the accused which collectively had Rs 7.65 lakh allegedly earned through the illegal betting, said Kunwar. He said that the police are looking into the criminal history of the accused and will soon arrest the associated culprits too. The police have registered a case against them under relevant acts including the Public Gambling act and will be presented soon in court, said Kunwar.
