The Dehradun police have arrested two men on charges of manufacturing spurious medicines and supplying them across the country. The police conducted raids at the accused’s premises in Haridwar and Dehradun and seized about 30 lakh spurious medicines and equipment worth lakhs of rupees besides freezing bank accounts with transactions worth crores of rupees, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. In a Press conference here on Sunday, he informed that a man named Vikram Rawat, a resident of Gurugram in Haryana and deputy manager at a pharmaceutical company registered a complaint in Raipur police station on Saturday against people selling spurious medicines using his company’s name.
According to the complainant, a man named Sachin Sharma, who runs SS Medicos in Dehradun’s Aman Vihar locality, had been allegedly selling spurious medicines along with his accomplices using the name of his company Jagsonpal Pharmaceuticals Limited for the past few years. The accused had committed fraud and put people’s lives at risk as per the complainant. Considering this, the SSP said that he formed a joint team of various police officials to act against the serious allegations. The police team arrested accused Sachin Sharma (40) and Vikas (32) from the Raipur area and recovered 7,200 spurious medicines from their possession. Singh said that both have revealed during the primary interrogation that they have a factory in Haridwar to make spurious medicines and they keep their stock of spurious medicines in a flat in Roorkee.
They supply this stock to different states of the country in the name of the original pharmaceutical company and have earned crores of rupees in the last few years and have used it to buy several assets as well, said SSP. He said that the police have sealed their factory and flat in Haridwar. The police are also collecting evidence regarding their earlier supply to other states. Singh said that according to both accused, they used to work in pharmaceutical companies as supervisors and in the marketing team and decided to start selling spurious medicines after they lost their jobs during Covid 19 pandemic. “They utilised their experience in the field to sell spurious medicines and earn huge profits. Police are still investigating which states and where they used to exactly supply these medicines to ensure their network gets destroyed completely. Police will present them in court and will take further action in the case accordingly,” added the SSP.
