The Dehradun police arrested two men belonging to Uttar Pradesh for selling fake detergent powder of the brand ‘Tide’ in Rishikesh. Some local people complained to the police on Wednesday that two men have been selling duplicate detergent powder named ‘Tied’ calling it genuine Tide detergent at the Gumaniwala area in Rishikesh.
The police informed that both men were selling the detergent through a four-wheeler roaming around across the city. Both men were scamming the people by saying that the detergent is of the branded company with an MRP of Rs 360 for four kilograms of detergent powder but they are selling it for only Rs 100. The police said that when some locals tested the detergent by mixing it in water, it did not make foam at all. However the water turned blue and some salt-like substance settled down in the bucket, as per the police.
The police arrested the accused under section 420, 34 of IPC, and seized a total of 306 packets (1,224 kg) of counterfeit detergent powder along with a vehicle. The accused Shoaib (24) and Usmaan (26) revealed during the investigation that they both worked as fruit sellers at Deoband in UP but they were not doing well in their work.
According to the police, a person arranged their meeting with a man named Jassie who convinced them to sell the counterfeit detergent powder for huge profits. They bought the detergent from Jassie in UP and came here to Rishikesh to sell them to locals on October 18. They had sold a total of 20 packets so far earning Rs 2,000 in two days. The police said that they are looking into the criminal history of both accused.
