The police have asked the public to consider the increased load of traffic due to ongoing construction works at 40 locations in the city under the Smart City project. People were stuck in traffic jams in various parts of Dehradun on Sunday due to ongoing works under the Smart City project at 40 spots across the city. Several departments and agencies concerned had removed CCTV cameras, traffic lights and other similar equipment for the widening of 40 bottlenecks across the city a few months ago. The officials concerned have started the construction work for the restoration of all the equipment at these spots. Considering this, traffic is expected to be affected in these areas for about five to six days, as per the police. These 40 bottlenecks include Survey Chowk, ISBT Chowk, Prince Chowk, Dharampur Chowk, Kanak Chowk, Araghar Chowk, Dilaram Chowk, MKP Chowk, Buddha Chowk, Bindal Chowk, Lansdowne Chowk, Darshan Lal Chowk, Saharanpur Chowk, Ghantaghar Chowk, CMI Hospital Chowk, Yamuna Colony Chowk, Orient Chowk and Behel Chowk, among others. Besides this, several people had to face severe traffic jams in the Jogiwala area since Sunday morning due to three pits dug on the roadside. This resulted in a long queue of vehicles going from Dehradun to Haridwar which also included several vehicles of tourists from nearby States. The police personnel were present there to streamline the traffic but several vehicles remained stuck in traffic on the said route for a considerable time. Several commuters and locals also expressed their anger on social media about severe traffic jams on the said route. However, the police said that the said works were important and the agencies concerned started working only after getting all required permissions from the authorities concerned. They have been directed to carry out construction work only at night to minimise the inconvenience to people during the day time. They have assured that the three ditches dug on the roadside in the Jogiwala area will be filled within three to five days, the police said. They also added that commuters might have to face inconvenience on the said routes due to the increased load of traffic and appealed to them to avoid these routes for the next five to six days as much as possible.
