The Dehradun police have arrested the second robber out of six involved in the armed robbery at the minister Prem Chand Aggarwal’s cousin’s home in Doiwala on October 15. The police have so far arrested three men involved for the planning of the robbery and two of the accused who robbed the house in broad daylight while four accused are still absconding. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said in a Press conference on Sunday that the police got a 30-hour Police Custody Remand (PCR) of accused robber Tehseem Qureshi who was arrested on October 19 from near Delhi-Baghpat highway. The police along with Qureshi went to his village in the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday where police recovered jewellery worth over Rs 15 lakh.
The police also received a tip during the investigation that one of the robbers would be arriving in Dehradun from Haridwar to meet a lawyer on Saturday. The SSP said that the police started checking near Nepali Farm when they observed a man trying to run back when he noticed the police personnel. He said that the police used necessary force to stop the robber and arrested him. The accused robber named Riyaz Ahmed (52) belongs to Muzaffarnagar and the police recovered Rs 3.75 lakh cash from him during checking. The SSP said that the police will work on getting PCR of Ahmed to gather more information about the case. On the question of the total amount of money and jewellery looted by the robbers, the SSP said that cash amounting to about Rs 20 lakh was looted as per the complainant while the total worth of stolen jewellery is still not clear. It is pertinent to mention here that six unknown men entered the house of Premchand Aggrawal’s cousin Shishpal Aggarwal’s house on October 15 at noon and kept his wife and two maids hostages in a room and looted the cash and jewellery.
It was revealed during the investigation that a contractor from Doiwala named Mehboob (45) had planned this robbery. He had worked as a carpenter in the complainant’s house two years ago. He was arrested by Dehradun police from Muzaffarnagar on October 18 along with his two accomplices. Mehboob knew the daily schedule of the family members and had allegedly approached six robbers from UP to rob the house. The SSP said that the investigation is going quite well and the remaining robbers will be nabbed soon too. The police might also announce a bounty on the absconding robbers who also hail from UP, as per the police.
