The police on Monday arrested two local men in Rishikesh for smuggling 90 kilogrammes of Ganja from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar informed that the police received a tip-off regarding smuggling of illegal drugs considering which, the Rishikesh police started checking vehicles near Shyampur level crossing on Monday.
The police stopped a vehicle during the checking and recovered 90 kilogrammes of Ganja worth Rs 36 lakh. The police have arrested both accused named Rohit and Manjeet who are locals of Dehradun under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act, said Kunwar. He said that the accused revealed during the interrogation that they were allegedly sent to Visakhapatnam by a man named Dinesh Yadav who lives in Doiwala area.
Yadav allegedly gave them a vehicle to go to Visakhapatnam where an acquaintance of his gave them the ganja.”The accused were told to supply ganja at various locations of Rishikesh, Laksmanjhula and Muni Ki Reti. Dinesh Yadav is currently absconding and police are working to nab him. We are also working on finding the criminal history of Yadav and the two arrested accused,” said Kunwar.
