Dehradun police nabbed two men on Saturday who allegedly used to rob people on the pretext of giving them a lift from outside bus stations. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said in a Press conference here on Sunday that a complainant Lokendra Kumar, a native of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh had filed a report in the police station on Friday stating that he reached Haridwar bus station from his hometown Bijnor on October 6 to go to Dehradun.
When he was waiting for a bus to go to Dehradun, a man approached him with a car stating that he was going to Dehradun too and he could drop him there if the complainant would pay him the usual fare that the bus charges. The complainant said that there was already a passenger in the car so he also sat in the car with his luggage. When he reached two kilometres ahead of Laltappad, the driver turned the vehicle to another route stating that he needs to take some stuff from the nearby village.
The driver suddenly stopped the car in a remote and quiet area and the man posing as a passenger hit him with a pistol on his head and took Rs 600 he had in his pocket along with his mobile phone, ATM card and luggage. They threatened to kill the victim and left him in the area alone before leaving the area. After this, the victim arrived at Dehradun and filed a report against the culprits. When the police started the investigation it was revealed that a woman named Babita Panwar had also filed a police complaint regarding a similar incident on October 6 in the Ranipokhri area when she was returning from work at night. The two men also hit her on her head and snatched her mobile phone, some money and an ATM card.
The SSP revealed that both incidents happened on the same date in a similar manner. He constituted four teams in Ranipokhri and Doiwala police stations to speed up the investigation in both areas. The police investigation led to the arrest of both accused Indrajit Singh (35) and Manish Rawat (25) on Saturday evening. The accused revealed during the investigation that Manish used to be a taxi driver and Indrajit had returned from America in 2016. Both are said to be drug addicts due to which, their wives have also left them. Both also lost their jobs due to which they decided to target people outside bus stations to rob them. The police recovered an air gun, two mobile phones and ATM cards looted from the victims. Both will be presented in court soon. The SSP also appealed to the people to be cautious of such frauds while travelling and advised them to approach the police in such cases as soon as possible.
