Doon police night checks to check criminal activities

The Dehradun police restarted Operation Night Strike across the district from Saturday night, officials said on Sunday. The police checked 1,809 vehicles and questioned more than 1,900 people during the drive. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal said that the campaign was conducted to prevent crime and improve security during the busy weekend period.

Dobal said that police teams conducted surprise checks at hotels, bars, pubs, restaurants and other places in different parts of the district during the drive. The police found 35 people suspicious and brought them to police stations for questioning and verification. The police later issued challans against them under the Police Act. Action was also taken against drunk driving with 18 drivers being arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Traffic violations were also checked during the campaign. The police issued challans under the Motor Vehicles Act against 30 drivers and collected a total fine of Rs 16,000. Challans against another 65 drivers were sent to court. The police also seized 23 vehicles for traffic violations. Officials said that the checking drive was aimed at keeping a close watch on people and vehicles moving at night and preventing criminal activities.

DEHRADUN: The Vikasnagar police verified more than 200 tenants, labourers and other people from outside the area during a checking drive in Barotiwala on Sunday.

The police also challaned 11 landlords for failing to get their tenants verified. The landlords were challaned under Section 83 of the Police Act and a total fine of Rs 1.10 lakh was imposed on them. Six other people were also challaned under Section 81 of the Police Act for violating rules. The police collected Rs 3,000 in cash as a fine from them.

 Officials said that the verification drive is important as it helps authorities maintain records of tenants, workers and other people from outside the area. Such verification also helps the police identify suspicious persons and prevent crime.
