Doon Police to intensify steps to check rash & drunk driving

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
With incidents of drunk and rash driving continuing in various parts of Dehradun, the police have decided to step up efforts further to check such serious violations. Most recently, four persons were killed and two injured after being run over by a rashly driven car in Dehradun on March 12. On Saturday, the senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh chaired a meeting with officers to review the situation and plan effective measures.
Singh directed the officers to ensure the effective management of traffic and enhanced enforcement against those violating traffic rules. Further, in order to effectively check road traffic accidents, police personnel have been deployed in two Interceptor vehicles of the Traffic Police to clamp down on rash and drunk driving. These vehicles remain mobile throughout the night and will ensure effective action against those found driving rash or under the influence of liquor.
Reviewing the online/office penalties being imposed on those found guilty of traffic rules’ violation, the SSP sought information about the process of payment of challan and the issues being faced in it, along with information about the reasons for delay in clearance of some challans.
Seeking information about the traffic personnel posted at various points for traffic operation and enforcement, the SSP directed officials to identify the accident-prone spots and deploy additional personnel in such locations to help prevent road traffic accidents. Regarding the shortage of police personnel for traffic duty, the Traffic Circle Officer was directed to evaluate the requirement and submit a report so that necessary communication can be made with the Garhwal inspector general to seek additional police force for traffic duty. Considering the Char Dham Yatra, the new elevated road and widening of other highways, the SSP directed officers to conduct inspections and identify sites for diversions, along with other necessary measures.
