The Dehradun district administration will open modern outlets, cafes, canteens and restaurants in the court premises, Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital, Guchhupani and Suddhowala near the Panchayat Ghar. This is a pilot project and its primary goal is to enhance the livelihoods of self-help groups and provide a space for local products to be marketed effectively. These establishments will be run 100 per cent by women of self-help groups who will be given training as per the market standards. Stating this, Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said that the outlets will not only provide nutritious food and organic products to the public but also offer employment opportunities to women. “Each outlet is expected to employ approximately 25 women, empowering them economically and giving them a platform to showcase their products. These outlets will promote the sale of local products, thereby strengthening the economy of self-help groups,” he said. He informed that the district hospital outlet will cater to the needs of patients’ attendants, while the court premises will have a modern canteen that will offer local products to visitors. The Suddhowala outlet will target tourists, providing them with authentic local food and organic products, further promoting the State’s unique offerings. The chief development officer Abhinav Shah informed that the initiative was inspired by successful projects implemented in Nainital during the tenure of Bansal. The officials concerned will soon prepare a detailed project report of the plan, he added.
