Doon sizzles at 41°C, expected to get hotter today

The maximum temperature rose six degrees above normal to reach 41 degrees Celsius in Dehradun on Saturday. The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning regarding the possibility of heat wave condition likely to occur at a few places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar districts and at isolated places in Rudraprayag, Tehri, Pauri, Almora, Nainital, Champawat districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Almora and Tehri districts of Uttarakhand. Apart from this, very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag, Almora and Tehri districts on Sunday while dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts.

Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 42 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Saturday were 41 degrees Celsius and 23.9 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 41 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 29.7 degrees Celsius and 16.5 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 29.4 degrees Celsius and 16 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
