Dehradun superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar conducted surprise inspections of Sahaspur, Selaqui and Premnagar police stations late Tuesday night. He also inspected the checking process of police personnel at respective police pickets of these areas. The SSP has turned super active following the incident on Sunday when a man along with his accomplices rammed a tractor full of mining material on a police constable under Garhi Cantt police station area. Though the police arrested the accused on Monday, many questioned the effectiveness of the police’s authority on the mining mafia and stopping illegal mining in Dehradun. This incident has also put pressure on the SSP through the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and director general of police (DGP) Ashok Kumar to improve the efficiency of police in the district who have already issued orders to take stringent action against people involved in illegal mining. The SSP has issued orders to all police stations in-charges to take preventive measures to prevent illegal mining across the district. He also stated during the inspection that all police stations and outposts in-charges should ensure no mining is being done after evening in their respective areas. The officials also need to stay alert on overloading of such vehicles. The SSP said that if such violations come to the fore, the responsibility of the in-charge concerned will be determined and action will be taken against them accordingly.
