In a novel initiative aimed at creating awareness about environment conservation, a ‘no vehicle day’ was observed in Doon University here on Monday.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university Surekha Dangwal had recently appealed that a no vehicle day should be observed in the university once a month after which a decision to observe such a day on the first Monday of the month was taken.
The dean student welfare H C Purohit said that on the day the students, faculty members and employees parked their vehicles at a designated place outside the main entrance of the university and walked to their classes and offices. The VC herself walked to her office while the higher education advisor of government M M S Rawat and K D Purohit also walked on foot inside the campus. The students also participated enthusiastically to give a message of protecting the environment.
The VC Dangwal said that the assessment of quality of any university is done by such measures which are associated with social commitments.
