Valentine’s Day was marked by brisk business in Doon on Saturday, as markets, gift shops and restaurants saw increased arrivals on the day.

Florists reported strong demand for red roses and bouquets, with prices climbing due to high sales. Some retailers said that the bulk purchases and last-minute buyers kept counters busy throughout the day.

Gift stores also claimed to have had a steady footfall with chocolates, soft toys, greeting cards and customised presents among the most sought-after items.
Restaurants and cafes across the city operated at near-full capacity.  “We’ve had a packed schedule since the afternoon. Most dinner slots were reserved earlier this week. There’s been a steady flow of couples coming in for both brunch and dinner,” said Rohit Thapliyal, owner of a cafe near Kanak Chowk.

Several couples opted for outings and short trips. Akriti Sharma said that she and her partner chose to spend the day in Mussoorie. “It’s a peaceful place and not too far,” she said. Rajat Dua said that he travelled to Nainital for a weekend getaway to mark the occasion.

Others kept celebrations simple. Gopal Singh said that he bought roses and a gift before heading out for lunch. “It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Spending time together is what matters,” he said.
