Doon’s celebrated producer OP Bhatt’s ‘August 16, 1947’ hits cinemas

Eminent producer Om Prakash Bhatt, hailing originally from Dehradun, has released his film ‘August 16, 1947’ worldwide. It has been produced under the banner of ‘Purple Bull Entertainment’. The film is a blend of romance, drama and thrills involving a story that revolves around the independence of India.
Speaking about his latest release, Bhatt says, “August 16, 1947 is an epic saga tailor-made for the silver screen. With edge-of-the-seat thrills, sweet romance and a story no one has dared to tell before, our team is looking forward to audiences experiencing this exciting film at a theatre near them”.
Bhatt further said that as he originally hails from Dehradun he is looking forward to receiving great support from Doonites.
Notably, ‘August 16, 1947’ is a tale of an erstwhile Indian village that keeps on bravely fighting the British while the rest of the country is celebrating just-gained freedom.
Starring Gautham Karthik, debutant Revathy and comedy star Pugazh, the film is being released worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Produced by Ghajini and Holiday director A R Murugadoss along with Om Prakash Bhatt and Narsiram Choudhary, ‘August 16, 1947’ is helmed by first-time filmmaker NS Ponkumar.
While speaking about his debut directorial, NS Ponkumar says, “To be able to tell a story this important is like a dream come true. Importantly, the producers never asked me to compromise on my vision. I am a little nervous but I am much more excited about finally bringing this film to audiences all over”.
