The Dehradun district administration has allocated Rs 10 crore for the beautification and redevelopment of key locations, including Dilaram Chowk, Kuthal Gate, Sai Mandir Junction and Clock Tower. The administration has also issued a single tender covering all these projects to ensure streamlined execution, the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal said. He informed that the administration has secured funding from the Dehradun Smart City project for multiple developments, including the beautification of Sai Mandir Junction, Kuthal Gate Chowk and Clock Tower. Besides this, a cultural wall will also be built at Dilaram Chowk. The administration will also install traffic junction lights at 11 key locations in the city. “Apart from these works, the administration will also carry out drainage construction and cleaning of the existing drain near ISBT Chowk. The tenders issued for these projects include a maintenance period of one year, which can be extended up to three years,” he said. Bansal said that a comprehensive plan has been designed to enhance these major intersections in Dehradun while also promoting local culture and reducing road accidents. “The beautification will incorporate artistic representations of the State’s heritage, folk traditions, religious sites and significant historical events, including the Uttarakhand statehood movement. This initiative aims to not only improve the city’s aesthetic appeal but also preserve its cultural identity,” he said. The DM further stated that the redevelopment of intersections will also focus on both traffic management and road safety while integrating elements of Uttarakhand’s traditional and architectural art forms. “The initiative seeks to strike a balance between infrastructure improvement and cultural promotion, making Dehradun’s streets safer and more attractive for both residents and tourists,” he added.
