In latest news from Uttarakhand, the district magistrate Mayur Dixit launched a door-to-door awareness campaign under the forest fire safety programme organised under the joint aegis of Hans Foundation and Tehri forest division. He appreciated the work being done by the Van Panchayats and felicitated some of them. Moreover, blankets, helmets, shoes, clothes, lights and other equipment were distributed among volunteers trained for fire safety work.
On this occasion, Dixit told the trained volunteers that what triggered most of the forest fires were the heaps generated from cleaning of agricultural fields and unsafe garbage burning near the forest. He also cited careless throwing of inflammable materials like cigarette butts as a major cause for forest blaze.
