Door to Door garbage collection service to commence from January in 100 wards

As an attempt to get better ranking in Swacch Survekshan 2021 and improve sanitation facilities, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will commence the door to door collection of garbage in all 100 wards of Dehradun from January. The corporation has hired Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) to manage the sanitation facilities in 69 wards including the door to door service and the garbage disposal while the new remaining wards do not have proper garbage disposal facilities. However, the officials informed that the MCD will soon commence the door to door garbage collection service in the remaining wards too which will also help in reducing the roadside dumping of waste in the city. As informed by the senior municipal health officer Dr R K Singh, MCD is currently preparing a Request for Proposal (RFP) citing the requirements of the corporation that includes points like how the selected company will collect the garbage, how many times will it arrive in an area for the door to door service and how the garbage will be processed by them. He said that the corporation will soon float the RFP and after the selection of a company, the door to door service will be initiated from January in all the wards. The officials said that this move will improve sanitation facilities in the city as well as the chances of the corporation to enter into the top 100 clean cities of the country in the Swacch Survekshan 2021. Besides, the corporation is also planning to remove the trash bins from several areas once the door to door service activates in the city from the next month. The start of this service in all the wards will surely help in reducing such dumping, said Singh.

Meanwhile, the MCD has asked REEL for the list of those who dump the domestic garbage through the door to door service and those who do not dump their garbage through this service will be sent notices. Singh said that the MCD has not received the list yet but the corporation will start sending notices to such locals as soon as the company gives them the list. The corporation will impose a minimum fine of Rs 500 and take action under the anti-littering act if anyone continues to avoid garbage dumping even after getting the notice, said Singh.
