Door-to-door waste collection complaints mount, MCD faces vehicle shortage

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Complaints related to the door-to-door garbage collection system of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) have been piling up on the CM Portal, highlighting gaps in the city’s sanitation services. According to the available data, 64 complaints related to door-to-door waste collection were registered in July 2026, while more than 50 such complaints have already been received between August 1 and 18.

The July complaint record includes grievances about garbage not being collected from houses, waste remaining unattended and irregular door-to-door collection. The three-page record lists 25 complaints on the first page, 25 on the second and 14 on the third, taking the total to 64. All 64 complaints are shown as disposed of in the records.

However, the continued flow of complaints raises questions over whether the disposal of complaints is translating into actual resolution on the ground. Several residents have complained about garbage not being collected regularly from their house.
A data operator handling complaints to the CM Portal regarding the MCD,

Shraddha Sharmasaid that the complaints are sometimes taking longer to be resolved because several sanitation vehicles of the civic body are currently out of service. According to her, the shortage of functional vehicles is affecting the timely door-to-door collection of garbage and subsequent resolution of complaints.

The issue has continued in August, with more than 50 door-to-door garbage collection complaints received on the CM Portal from August 1 to August 18. Sharma further said that eight complaints related to door-to-door garbage collection were received on Tuesday and none of these had been resolved till the time of reporting.

The figures indicate that complaints regarding door-to-door garbage collection are continuing despite earlier grievances being marked as disposed of. The situation also raises questions over the monitoring of the waste collection system and the availability of functional garbage collection vehicles.

With door-to-door garbage collection being a basic civic service, the rising number of complaints highlights the need for the MCD to ensure adequate operational vehicles and strengthen its monitoring mechanism so that garbage is collected regularly and complaints are resolved on time.
