A couple from Chhattisgarh was found dead in a labour accommodation near the under-construction building close to Graphic Era Hospital in the Premnagar area of Dehradun on Sunday.
According to the officials, Bhaskar Lal (28) hailing from Kabirdham, Chhattisgarh, was living with his wife Janik Gaur (26) in the labour accommodation near the construction site.
He was working as an electrician at the site. On the morning of the incident, the couple did not come out of their room, which raised concerns among other workers. When they knocked on the door and received no response, they broke it open and reportedly found their bodies hanging on nooses tied to a pipe on the ceiling. The labourers immediately informed the police. Officers from Premnagar police station arrived at the location and took control of the scene.
The officials said that a forensic team was called to examine the spot and collect evidence. Nearby residents were also questioned as part of the investigation to ascertain the cause behind the double suicide. The bodies have been sent for post mortem examination, and police are continuing with their inquiry.
The officials said that the families of the deceased have been informed and further action will be taken after their arrival. Police have started an investigation from all possible angles, they said.
