Dozen plus duped for jobs abroad

With an increasing number of young job seekers looking for employment opportunities outside India, the instances of fraud related to work visas and overseas recruitment consultancies have been on the rise in Dehradun. Considering this, the Dehradun police will soon start a verification drive of such people and agencies involved in such businesses, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. Several youngsters met the SSP in his office on Monday to complain against a man Bharat Kumar Nirvani and his associates who allegedly duped at least 16 people of Dehradun in the name of sending them to Singapore and Canada for jobs. The accused allegedly took Rs one lakh from each victim in the name of registration and expenses in May this year. According to the complainants, the man also allegedly has an accomplice living in Canada. When somebody demands to know about his previous clients, the accused makes the person talk to his said accomplice in Canada, one of the victims Sonia Lodh claimed. She said that Nirvani also gave them fake documents regarding medical tests, job interviews and work visas among others to gain their trust. She said that two women also help Nirvani to lure the youngsters, who seek to work in foreign countries, into their trap. The victims are currently unable to contact the accused. The SSP said that the police have registered a case in the matter. It was also disclosed during the initial investigation that several other cases are also registered against the accused in other states too. The police have started the investigation and will nab all culprits soon, he said. He also informed that such cases have recently increased in the district considering which, the police will soon conduct a verification drive to verify such agencies and people associated with such businesses.
