Dr Yasbir Dewan takes over as new VC of SGRR

Noted neurosurgeon Dr Yashbir Dewan took charge as the new vice-chancellor of Shri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) University on Monday. After he took charge, SGRR president Mahant Devendra Dass said that all associated with the university were looking forward to him taking the overall academic and administrative functions of the university to new heights. “He will also be responsible for developing strategic planning and policies and introducing innovative programmes to enhance the quality of education and research. Besides, under his guidance, the university will promote interdisciplinary research and strengthen partnerships between industry and academia,” he added.
He further said that Dewan’s appointment marks a significant milestone in the university’s journey towards evolving into a globally recognised institution.
Notably, prior to the new assignment, Dr Dewan held important positions such as principal of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. He is MCh in Neurosurgery and MS in General Surgery. Besides, he received specialised training in Cranial Base and Vascular Surgery, Spine, advanced neurosurgery in Micro-vascular and Spine Surgery from several institutions both in India and abroad. He is also credited with the development of the trauma system in India.
