Driver hits three policemen during Deepawali checking in Doon

A man hit three policemen with his vehicle during Deepawali checking at Araghar T-junction in Dehradun at about 3:45 AM on Sunday. The policemen, head constable Suganpal, constable Sachin and constable Kamla Prasad, were on picket and vehicle-checking duty when the incident occurred.

The vehicle rammed into them when they signalled the driver to stop for checking, as per the officials. They informed that the injured policemen were taken to a nearby hospital for primary treatment and were later referred to Synergy Hospital for advanced care. All the three are undergoing treatment, they said. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh reached the hospital soon after receiving the information, met the injured personnel and asked the doctors to ensure they receive the best possible medical care.

The SSP also instructed the respective in-charges of Cantt and Dalanwala police stations to extend all necessary assistance for the policemen’s treatment. The officials informed that the police identified the driver as Mohammad Umar alias Tahir (36), son of Mohammad Rais, a resident of East Canal Road, Dalanwala. Police have registered a case against him under relevant legal sections, seized the Mahindra Thar (registration number UK07 FW1002) he was driving at the time of the incident and arrested the accused.

The SSP stated that strict legal action will be taken against the driver for injuring on-duty policemen and obstructing official work. In view of Deepawali, the SSP has also instructed all police teams to maintain strict vigilance across the district and to take firm action against any person violating traffic rules or creating disturbance.
