A man employed as a gas delivery man is facing the consequences of lodging a false complaint about a loot against some people with whom he had personal animosity. According to the police, Niraj Kumar of Sahaspur area in Dehradun district had lodged a complaint with the police on November 30 that some unknown persons had stopped him on the road and looted Rs 25,000 from him in addition to threatening to kill him. The police lodged a case and started investigating the matter.
The initial investigation made the police suspect the complainant, following which the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh directed that all aspects of the case should be probed in detail. The police narrowed down on some persons of interest including Kapil Thakur, Anshu Thakur, Mukesh Kumar, Ranjan Kumar, Saurabh Thapa and Noor Aftab, all residents of Dehradun. On questioning these men, the police learnt that the complainant had a violent altercation with the father of the Thakur brothers regarding the supply of cooking gas cylinders in the area. Following this the brothers along with their accomplices had also had a violent altercation with the complainant, in retribution for what he had done to their father.
After this incident, Niraj Kumar exaggerated the incident and claimed it to be a loot in order to ‘teach them a lesson’. The police investigation also revealed that the amount which the complainant had claimed was looted, had already been deposited by him earlier in the gas agency office. The police probe ascertained that no loot had taken place with the complainant. The police are now taking legal action against the complainant for lodging a false FIR.
