Drug addict beats old man to death for Rs 1,250, police nab him within six hours

Dehradun police arrested the alleged killer of a 72-year-old watchman from Vikasnagar area within six hours of the complaint on Monday. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said in a Press conference here on Monday that complainant Javed Ahmad, a local of Nawabganj in Vikasnagar filed a complaint on Monday morning that somebody has murdered his watchman named Rajkumar (72) who worked at his workshop on Canal Road, Basantpur.
Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the SSP formed four teams to handle various aspects of investigation. The teams analysed the murder site, activated informers’ network and checked CCTV footage of the nearby area to gather evidence against the culprit. The police narrowed down their search to 22-year-old man Sultan, a local of Vikasnagar and took him under custody for questioning. The SSP said that the accused initially denied the allegation but he finally confessed to killing the watchman after which he was arrested by the police within six hours of the complaint.
The accused revealed during the investigation that he is a drug addict and he wanted to use drugs so he entered the workshop premises where he saw the victim lying in a cot. He started hitting the old man with a bamboo stick and beat him to death and took Rs 1,250 from his pocket, informed Kunwar. He informed that there are already eight cases registered against the accused under various sections in Vikasnagar police station. The accused will be presented to court soon.
