In latest news from Uttarakhand, a drug peddler was injured during an encounter with police near Jatwada bridge within Jwalapur police station limits in Haridwar district late on Wednesday night. The encounter happened when he was coming towards Haridwar town with a friend on a two-wheeler sans number plate. Suspicious, police asked them to stop but they instead opened fire on them and tried to escape. Police chased them and resorted to retaliatory firing. While the peddler was injured in his leg his partner managed to escape. Police rushed him to a hospital. The SSP, Haridwar, Pramod Singh Dobal said that the injured drug smuggler was identified as Nazakat Ali from Fatehganj , West Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, adding that 101.5 gms of smack had been seized from him. They were on the lookout for the absconder, he further said.
