The president of the Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM), Pankaj Masson on Friday drew the attention of mayor Saurabh Thapliyal to the long-standing issues faced by individuals operating stalls and carts on Dispensary Road in Dehradun. These stalls and carts have been contributing to significant traffic jams in the area. Masson and his team urged the mayor to establish a proper vendor zone for these stalls and carts.
Masson said that they informed the mayor that these vendors rely on Dispensary Road for their livelihood. However, their presence not only creates challenging conditions for them but also disrupts local shopkeepers in the Rajiv Gandhi Complex and along Dispensary Road. This situation adversely affects their businesses, while customers face numerous challenges when visiting the market. The most pressing issue is the traffic congestion caused by the carts, which creates inconvenience for the general public, visiting customers and local merchants.
To address this, Masson said that they requested the mayor to take necessary action to connect these stall and cart owners with self-employment opportunities by establishing designated vendor zones and Dispensary Road to be made cart-free. This initiative would not only provide employment for these individuals but would also help clean and beautify the roads, alleviating traffic congestion for both customers and local shopkeepers.
Further, Masson also highlighted that the haphazard parking on Dispensary Road has also become a significant problem. He proposed converting this area into smart parking zones to prevent traffic jams caused by poorly parked vehicles.
