With rain and snowfall continuing across Uttarakhand since Friday morning, an earthquake of the magnitude 2. 4 on Richter scale was felt in Chamoli town at 9.36 AM. Though the panicky people rushed out of their homes no report of loss of life or damage to property was reported from anywhere. The district disaster management officer N K Joshi confirmed this, adding that the epi-centre of the quake was five kilometres beneath the earth’s surface.
Importantly, Uttarakhand falls in the Zone 5 in terms of earthquake sensitivity.
