Earthquake tremors felt twice in Uttarakhand

Milder quake occurred in Pauri followed by another quake in Nepal
Tremors from an earthquake in Nepal were felt across the State on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, milder tremors from an earthquake were felt in the Pauri district and some other parts of the State in the early evening. While tremors from an earthquake reported to be of 3.4 magnitude on the Richter scale were felt in Pauri and some other parts at about 4:25 PM, tremors from a quake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale were felt across the State at about 8 PM. There were no reports of any major damage caused by the tremors till the time of this report being filed.
According to the National Center for Seismology, at 4:25 PM the earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale occurred in Pauri district at a depth of five kilometres below the surface. Later, an earthquake struck Nepal at 7:57 PM with a magnitude of 5.4. It occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres under the surface and its epicenter was 212 kilometres south east of Joshimath in Uttarakhand. Though there were no reports of any major damage in the State, the tremors felt late in the evening caused anxiety among the people especially in the mountainous regions. People came out of their homes on feeling the tremors and raised the alarm calling for others to get out of their homes.
It is pertinent to mention here that the tremors from an earthquake in Nepal on November 9 were also felt across the State. The State has experienced tremors thrice within one week.
