Eat local food, seasonal fruits to stay healthy – Health DG

A state level sensitisation workshop under Eat Right India movement was organised on the occasion of World Food Safety Day by National Health Mission (NHM) Uttarakhand and Ayushman Bharat- Health and Wellness centre on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion the director general of State health services Dr Shailja Bhatt said that the intake of seasonal fruits helps in reduction in chances of non communicable diseases. Expressing concern on the increasing tendency of junk food consumption among the youth she said that there is a need to promote local food in our food plate.
The NHM director Dr Saroj Naithani said that there is a need to understand the theme of Eat Right India movement which is ‘healthy food, better life’ and everyone should inculcate it in one’s life. She said that the eat right India movement would be taken to every part of the state and under it people would be taught about intake of nutritious food and good feeding habits to prevent from falling ill.
Dr Naithani said that apart from the health department the active involvement of Ayush, education, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Rotary International, Doon Club and other organisations is needed for the success of the campaign.
The deputy commissioner, FDA, J C Kandwal said that Eat Right India is an initiative to reduce the burden of diseases from the country. He said that certificates would be issued to the hotels for maintaining the sanitation and quality of food. Kandwal said that a campaign for increasing use of fortified food and social and behavioural changes among people is being initiated in the state.
The NSS State programme officer Ajay Agarwal, CMS of Coronation hospital Dr Shikha Jangpangi, joint director Dr D P Joshi and others took part in the programme.
