The district Health department is now on heightened alert concerning the Ebola virus. Providing details, the Dehradun chief medical officer (CMO), Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma stated that the Health department is on the alert with directions having recently been issued to government and private hospitals in Dehradun district in this regard.
He stated that hospitals have been instructed to monitor individuals who have arrived from countries such as Congo and Sudan, or those who have come into contact with residents of these countries. He added that such individuals must be kept under surveillance and quarantined. Furthermore, any person, who has been in contact with the residents of these countries or has returned from there with fever, should undergo testing, he said.
Commenting on the symptoms of Ebola virus, Sharma said that it is similar to other viruses and can spread through breathing or contact with an infected person. “The symptoms are fever and body ache among others. Therefore, to stay safe, people should take precautions. Those who have arrived from the above-mentioned countries should isolate themselves for a few days and step out only after the symptoms disappear,” Sharma said.
