ECI observer visits Uttarkashi, reviews poll preparations

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the Election Commission of India-appointed general observer Kunji Lal Meena stressed on ECI-laid guidelines and model code of conduct be followed in letter and spirit while taking stock of the election-related preparations during his Uttarkashi district visit.
He inspected the integrated control room set up at the district headquarters to monitor the election- related arrangements and compliance with the code of conduct aside from redressing the electors’ complaints.
Briefing the observer, the district magistrate and the district election officer Meharban Singh Bisht said that the first round of training has been imparted to the selected personnel for electioneering. The district superintendent of police Arpan Yaduvanshi apprised Meena of the steps police have taken to facilitate free and fair election, including deployment of central paramilitary forces at the sensitive polling stations. On this occasion, the chief development officer and additional district election officer Jai Kishan gave a presentation regarding the election arrangements and preparations in the district.
The process of deployment of personnel for election duty had meanwhile been completed through the second phase of computerised randomisation at the district headquarters. According to the district officials privy to details said that a total of 596 polling groups, including reserved polling groups, have been formed for the three assembly constituencies of the district.
