Ecology & biodiversity training for CCL officials starts at ICFRE

A training programme on ecology and biodiversity for the executives of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Ranchi, Jharkhand started at the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) here on Monday. Inaugurating the five-day training programme, ICFRE assistant director general Sumit Chakravorti emphasised on the importance of ecology and biodiversity in relation to coal mining activities and role of different floral and faunal aspects in restoration of degraded mined out areas.
During the inaugural session, ICFRE assistant director general of ICFRE Rajesh Sharma spoke about the need for adoption of scientific methodologies for eco-restoration of mined out areas so that the environment is protected and ecosystem benefits are ensured. ICFRE officials informed the participants about the various activities to be undertaken during the training programme. Various experts are scheduled to deliver lectures on different topics covering ecology and biodiversity, nursery and plantation techniques for de-coaled areas, application of RS-GIS tools in biodiversity assessment, eco-restoration of coal mined out areas and other subjects during the training programme. Field visits are also scheduled to be conducted to various sites.
