Economic survey presents healthy picture of Uttarakhand’s economy

The report of the economic survey tabled in the Vidhan Sabha during the ongoing budget session shows that the size of the economy of the State has increased from Rs 15,826 crore in the year 2001-02 to Rs 3,78,245 ( expected)  in the year 2024-25. Uttarakhand is celebrating 25 years of its creation this year along with Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The economic survey compares the three States in the overall size of the economy and per capita income. The size of the economy of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh in the year 2001-02 was Rs 35,069 crore and Rs Rs 29,539 crore respectively. In the year 2023-24, the size of the economy of Jharkhand was Rs 4,61,010 crore while that of Chhattisgarh was Rs 5,05,887 crore. 

The survey shows that the per capita income (PCI) in Uttarakhand increased to Rs 2,74,064 in 2024-25 from Rs 2,46,178 in the year 2023-24 which is a healthy 11.33 per cent increase in a period of one year. As per the data given by the Statistics and Programme Implementation ministry of government of India, the PCI of the country in the year 2024-25 is estimated at Rs 2,00,16 which shows an increase of 8.7 per cent over Rs 1,84,025 calculated for the year 2023-24.

The survey shows that the share of the primary sector in the economy of the State has shrunk below 10 per cent in the year 2024-25. The share of the primary sector in the year 2011-12 in the economy of the State was 14 per cent. 

On the other hand, the survey shows that the share of the tertiary sector in the economy of the State has increased to 46.02 per cent in the year 2024-25 from 33.88 per cent in the year 2011-12. The share of the secondary sector in the economy of the State decreased to 44.65 per cent in 2024-25 from 52.12 per cent in 2011-12.
