In latest news from Dehradun, the Enforcement Directorate has seized the movable and immovable property worth Rs 20 crore and 36 lakh of the former IAS officer Ram Vilas Yadav under the Prevention of money laundering Act 2002. The ED sources informed that the action has been taken as the former officer’s income was found disproportionate to his known sources of income. At present, the former IAS officer has remained lodged in Dehradun jail. The sources further informed that the assets seized were those he had bought in Dehradun and Lucknow.
Notably, the Vigilance department of Uttarakhand government had ordered investigation into the disproportion asset allegation levelled against then IAS officer Yadav. As per the allegation, he had spent over Rs 21 crore while his income from known sources during the period of 2013 to 2016 was just Rs 78 lakh. After refusing to respond to the Vigilance notices for a long time, Yadav finally reached the Dehradun-based Vigilance office on June 23, 2022 and was subjected to nine-hour-long interrogation. As his replies were found unsatisfactory, he was arrested barely a week before his retirement and since then, he has been languishing in jail.
