Education department to provide career counselling to class X, XII students

In an attempt to provide career related help to the students of the government schools of the State, the Uttarakhand government has decided to provide career counselling to them. The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the students of class X and XII should know in advance what they would do after passing these classes.
The minister was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of ‘the career guru programme’ at the virtual studio in the Navodaya Vidyalaya in Raipur on Monday. Under the programme, 150 teachers would provide career counselling to 2000 students by Tamanna Aptitude test. He said that these tests would be conducted in different parts of the State and would help in providing valuable guidance to the students regarding their career. The minister informed that Vidya Sameekha Kendras (VSK) would be opened in the State on the lines of Gujarat.
The VSK would help in providing information about the classes, academics and how teachers are imparting education. It would also help in online promotions and transfers of teachers. He added that the process of making health IDs of more than 40 lakh students of Uttarakhand is going on at present and once completed the health record of every student would be available on the click of a mouse and would help in giving online medical consultancy to the students when needed. The teams of the health department are visiting the schools to make these health IDs. He announced that the State government would provide Rs 5,000 for purchasing sport gear and Rs 5,000 for library to every primary school and Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 to the Junior high schools and intermediate schools respectively. Apart from the government schools the free textbooks, uniform and shoes would be provided to the students of the aided schools also.
The minister declared that in order to achieve the target of 90 per cent passing ratio in the Uttarakhand board, internal examinations should be conducted every 15 days in the class X and XII. Speaking on the occasion, the director general of education, Banshidhar Tiwari said that the names of the students of government schools should be there in the merit list of board examinations and for this he directed the teachers that they should take the help of old papers of board for providing practice to the students. The chairperson of the Aasra trust Shaila Brijanath said training would be provided to the teachers of government schools of Uttarakhand on career counselling and Tamanna Aptitude test.
