The Education department has started the process of filling the vacant posts of principals in the government schools of the State. There are more than 1,024 vacant posts of principals in the government schools of the State. As per the regulations 50 per cent of the vacant posts are filled by direct recruitment while remaining 50 per cent by departmental promotions. The issue of the departmental promotions has been stalled for some years due to the dispute regarding seniority of teachers. The issue is now pending in the court. The department has now started the process to fill the vacant posts by direct recruitment and for it the secretary Ravinath Raman has sent a requisition to Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UkPSC) under which recruitment of 692 principals will be done soon. The teachers who have completed ten years of service will be eligible to apply for the direct recruitment of headmasters. The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that on the orders of the State government the department has decided to recruit 692 posts of principals in government schools of the State.
