Education Dept to train students in folk music, art and instruments

The Education department is planning to start ‘Lokdhun’ programmes in the schools of the State under which the students will be trained in different aspects of folk music, art and musical instruments.

The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the State government is laying special focus on innovative activities in the government schools for overall development of the students. He said that in the first phase Lokdhun programmes will be organised in 380 government schools of the State. In these programmes, the students will be encouraged in folk music, arts and instruments. Rawat said that local artists will provide training in instruments such as Dhol-Damau (drums) and bagpipes and art and music.

 The minister added that sports complexes will be constructed in 12 districts of the State. These complexes will be equipped with modern facilities and training in boxing, badminton, basketball and table tennis will be given to students in them.

He said that the Education department has also taken up an initiative to develop reasoning power in the students under which aptitude training programmes will be organised in all the schools of the State. In these programmes the students will be given training based on OMR sheets so that they get prepared for the competitive examinations in future.

 Rawat added that the government has also extended the reach of Super 100 programmes to 200 so that more and more students can be trained for medical and engineering entrance examinations.

 He said that the government of India has allotted a budget for these innovative programmes under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Rawat said that the efforts of the State government to improve the education system in the State has yielded results. The gross enrolment ratio (GER) and the net enrolment ratio (NER) of the students have improved in the State while the dropout rate has declined considerably, he said.
